Four Corners Wine Tour
8 riding days and 9 nights lodging
1600 miles
September 13 to September 20, 2010
We designed this trip to give you a little bit of everything from Southwest deserts to several 10,000 foot high mountain passes. After your first night in Salt Lake City which includes a welcome dinner, we will pass through the beautiful mountains and red rock spaces of Southern Utah. Our first night stops in Torrey, the motorcycle crossroads of the Southwest, for dinner at a favorite restaurant of ours operated by a chef and friend who has received a Fodor's Choice 2008 award. From there we gas up and grab a box lunch (no services for quite a while) and explore Capitol Reef National Park, Natural Bridges Monument and stay the night in Bluff, Utah where we will treat you to one of the better steak dinners in the Southwest.
The next day, we take a tour through Monument Valley and then head over into Colorado for a two night stay in the town of Durango. The lay-over day will allow us to go to Mesa Verde National Park for tours of the most incredible Native American ruins in the country. The park service has restored several of the dwellings that once housed thousands of people where you will be able to take guided and self guided tours of these spectacular ruins.
From Durango we head up into the high country of Colorado over some of the highest passes in the country and end up in Gunnison for a good old western catered Dutch oven dinner.
The next day is one of extremes. We will go to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park that is one of the deepest canyons in the country. That afternoon, we will travel up to the Grand Mesa National Scenic and Historic Byway which is the largest flat-top mountain in the world. Then, down through the wine country of Colorado for an overnight stay in Grand Junction.
We stop for a day in this area for the Colorado Mountain Winefest which is their annual celebration of all of the great wines that are being produced in that area . We will do a ride in the morning through the Colorado National Monument and join the festivities in a park and have the chance to taste and purchase wines from about 45 vintners. Transportation will be provided!
The following day takes us to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks before spending our last night on the roads in Moab, Utah.
The last day’s ride back to Salt Lake City treats us to more incredible red rock and high Utah Mountains. Three National Parks, four National Monuments, and 1900 miles. Nice ride…
