Tour Ten

Extreme Western
9 riding days and 10 nights lodging
2340 miles

This is a 9 day tour that encompasses the most extreme riding roads and environments in the west. Starting in Utah, you will travel west on Nevada Highway 50, the “loneliest Highway In America” with it’s wide open beauty and eventually ride on roads in the California Redwoods whose green canopy is so heavy, the sky will be blocked from view. Extreme.

Starting in Salt Lake City, you travel to the small historical town of Ely, Nevada. Along the route, you will visit Great Basin National Park home of the Lehman Caves and the bristle cone pine tree forest in the shadow of Wheeler Peak, the highest mountain in Nevada. The ride to the top is one of the great motorcycle roads in Nevada.

Day two takes you across the heart of Nevada on Highway 50. There are several stretches of arrow straight road followed by twisty climbs over a mountain range. About the time you need to take a break, magic. A small town appears! Evening will put you at South Lake Tahoe for a two night stay.

The next day is a loop around the lake and a ride through the northern California passes  and hills on what we call the “Downieville Loop.”

The forth day heads you West through the Sierras and down into the wine country of Northern California.

Day five will be the opposite of the extreme side of this tour. Traveling north you will enter the famed California Redwoods and travel west to the remote “Lost Highway” portion of the California coast. After taking your time here, another incredible road will put you in the coastal fishing town of Eureka for the night.

The sixth day is short day in miles, only 150,  but the winding road that takes you to Redding will take longer than you think to travel. Your overnight stay is an interesting town that includes a beautiful park that is home to the “Sundial Bridge.”

Day seven? How about a volcano! Lasen national park is a mini “Yellowstone” with hot pots and thermal pools that surround the ancient volcano.  High Sierra mountain roads will drop you into Carson City, the capitol of Nevada.

The following day will backtrack Highway 50 to Ely, Nevada.

The last day will explore the open roads of northern Nevada to the border gambling town of Wendover and across the famous Bonniville Salt Flats on back home to Salt Lake City.

As stated, this is a tour of extremes. No question.
